How to: Import Data Into Salesforce

As a Salesforce Administrators, every day we receive different requirements from our clients, depending on their needs. In most of the cases, their demands are very crucial and of great importance to us and the companies.
One of the most time consuming and important requirements is the data import in Salesforce. We often face with this problem that takes so much resources, especially when you are facing with imports of bulks of data into the eco-system.

Solution

Therefore, the BEST solution when we are facing with bulkified data being imported into the eco-system is to download Data Loader application. Data Loader is a client application for the bulk import or export of data. It is supported for loads of up to 5 million records.

Tip

TIP
Before you insert the data, make sure that is clean and good data. Sort your headers, clean the excel file, remove mistakes, remove duplicates and save it in .csv format.

After selecting which objects need to be imported (in this case we need to import leads object), the columns in the CSV file needs to be mapped to Salesforce fields.

There are two ways of mapping:

- Auto-Match fields to columns - the Data Loader populates the list based on the similarity of field and column names.

- Manually match fields with columns - click and drag fields from the list of Salesforce fields at the top to the list of CSV column.

Benefits and results
  • The users' time has been significantly reduced;
  • There is no manually importing leads;
  • Sales team members have visibility into each other's leads;
  • There is no duplication of leads;
  • Support for large files with up to 5 million records;
  • Drag-and-drop field mapping;
